Welcome to Art 265: Clay2!

Dear Students,

A warm and hearty welcome to the class blog for Art 265 Ceramics II, which provides direct access to important class documents. Each student is asked to develop a personal blog that will be linked to our class blog so we can easily share information. Directions for setting up your blog can be found in the links to the right.

This course is designed to strengthen existing skills in clay and develop new skills. We will work nearly exclusively with clay (some mixed media is possible), building upon skills developed in Clay I and integrating new techniques and experiences. Additionally this course is intended to help students gain experience in finding/defining independent/self-directed studio work.
There are therefore four primary goals for the semester as follows:
  • Finding your own voice as a ceramic artist
  • Increasing your technical skill in ceramics (handbuilding, moldmaking, materials knowledge)
  • Mastering the art of kilns
  • Gaining appreciation for, and increasing knowledge of, the history of ceramics and contemporary practice
One of your first assignments will be to create your blog and develop your first two posts.

I'm looking forward to our semester together. Ceramics is one of my all-time favorite classes to teach and from our previous work together I know you will be a wonderful group to work with!

Below are some images to inspire....enjoy!
